You can polish a turd

I saw a post on Neil Hopkin’s blog the other day where he was getting excited about a film having watched the trailer despite his gut telling him not to base any opinion on trailers. I can appreciate this sentiment entirely.

Having just seen the trailer for Iron Man I felt the same excitement but then realised that the trailer was built on very little and was perhaps all that the film had to offer. I hope that’s not the case because this not only looks really cool but it has loads of potential.

However, the fact remains that you can make the worlds best trailer for the worlds worst film.. you can polish a turd, but its still a turd.

Hard to say. Look at Spider Man, Spider Man 2, X-Men, Hellboy, Hulk, Sin City, 300. All awesome comic->movie conversions.

Then again, we can’t forget Fantastic Four, can we? :)

There are some good films but there are just as many, if not more, turds.

Batman Begins, Superman Returns, etc

They all seen to be based on one event and one special effects sequence at the expense of a story.

Damn, that’s another film to get excited about now … :-)

You do know about this one too do you ;)

I realised I made an error on my post.

“However, the fact remains that you can make the worlds best trailer for the worlds best film.”

Should, of course, have been:

“However, the fact remains that you can make the worlds best trailer for the worlds worst film”

You knew what I meant though :)
