World Series at Donington

We all had a late night on Saturday. I think it made up for me being so quiet on Friday, so the 7:30am alarm wasn’t very welcome. I did try but in the end gave up. In the end we didn’t get off until 10:30am and rather than give the sat nav a swift kick and head for the M6/A50 I stupidly followed it on the shorter but ultimately slower journey via Macclesfield and Leek. When we got there the amount of traffic added the best part of an hour to the journey.

We got in late but just in time to see the back end of the second World Series race which dished up a few spills, notably three cars piling into the gravel, at speed and towards us as soon as we’d took up a spot on the corner. Which was fun :)

The rest of the racing was largely unimpressive with the highlight being the opportunity to see the F1 demo. Having seen the previous cars driving at speed around the track but slowing for the corners Its a real contrast to see the F1 cars going round like Wipeout without slowing for the bends. The crowds had started to shift by then so we took that as a cue to make tracks too.

Back in the car I set up the sat nav and feeling wiser after the outward journey was fully expecting it to tell me to go back the way I’d came but it didn’t. It told me to do the A50/M6 combo I wanted to do. Silly woman.. I should change the voice to a male voice with the ability to read a map.
