Where are they all now?
I was messing around with Facebook and realised that, of the handful of names on my friends list, all my contacts are current acquaintances and looking around their friends they seem to have a fair population of old school contacts.I know that my school arrangements were always a bit fragmented having gone to a private school with a large catchment area. Basically it meant that while my neighbouring friends socialised with the same people in and out of school I couldn’t due to the distances involved, a situation that was made worse as I moved from my hometown at 14. I had to start from scratch with no local school mates and no childhood friends. Sure I kept in touch with my close friends but I lost that group interaction that folks carry on with beyond school and into the drinking, clubbing years. Anyway, what does this all mean. It means that, through my own fault, on the final day of school I just left. I picked up my bag and walked home. I briefly saw some people in the years that followed but that was it. Now many years on I have no idea what has happened to them beyond the sketchy details posted on Friends Reunited. I do know that there was a school reunion for the class of ’84 some years back but I’m not the type of person who would relish such an event and I’d hazard a guess that the people I used to socialise with at school would feel the same. I tried some Googling earlier using some of the more uncommon names but drew a blank. I find it surprising these days and can’t imagine that they aren’t blogging, posting photos, social networking, etc. I did wonder if any of them were dead then realised that if I posted a message looking for people it was a possibility that someone might confirm that to be the case and then there would be an awkward moment (as much as you can have one on the web). So I continue to wonder from a far with a reluctance to actively go out and try to make contact for fear of what I might uncover.

Update: I found one old friend and I’ve sent him an email. Lets see what happens.
