Best tech support call ever
Since yesterday I have been unable to access www.ugvx.com. The problem exists on all the computers here and having eliminated the router and cable modem, and seeing as I could resolve the site address and ping it, I suspected a broken webcache. I just had to get NTL to agree and subsequently fix the problem.
I made a call and after redialling the new Virgin Media number ended up, as usual, with an Indian call centre.
The guy on the other end obviously had as much of a problem understanding my English as i did his as it took me ten minutes to get him to understand that I was on a Mac and during this time had to translate PC tech support instructions on the fly. I had to push the issue when he asked me to reboot and press F8. I have a broadband connection problem, I don’t want to uninstall video drivers!
I did also make the mistake of mentioning that the website was of a gaming nature and had to endure five minutes, at my expense, of him telling me how good Need for Speed Underground is.
So after an age of rebooting and going through the motions of reboots, router removals, cable modem reboots, etc he goes away to speak to his superior only to come back screaming that the building was on fire an that I had to call back.
If he didn’t know how to fix it he should just have said!
