Another catchup.

What have I been up to recently…

Well you know that I have resolved my iLife problems in my last post. I’ve created a few shorts recently in iMovie/iDVD and we are big friends again.. thanks Steve :) <

As a thank you to Apple I have bought another Mac. This will be the 5th in the house (not including the beige G3 PowerMac in the loft) and is an Intel Mac mini. Its for my son who I have finally got to switch thanks to his Dell dying. As usual I'm impressed by how much you get in the package as its fully loaded with iLife and all other niceties. One of the main reasons is to give him some encouragement, not to mention the tools, to get on the Btec Media Design course he is trying to get on.

I have to smile as he has become a mini salesman and has had a steady stream of people through the door showing them what his new Mac can do. They are all PC luddites :)

As far as my gadget addiction is concerned I have two new toys.

First in my new DS lite. My original DS went to Emily leaving me open to buying James
one to maintain the balance of the universe. This one is squarely mine and has allowed me to return Jim's console after a few months with Animal Crossing. Very lovely it is too.

Secondly I needed a new camera for travelling. My Konica Minolta DiMAGE A2 is fine for work and special occasions but not wanting to look like a Japanese tourist I wanted something that I could slip in my pocket. Some of my best shots are the spontaneous photos and I didn’t
want to keep borrowing Emily’s or Jayne’s cameras, powder blue and pearl pink respectively Olympus mjµ’s. With it being my birthday I suggested that Jayne get me a camera and so I got a nice spanky new Sony Cybershot DSC-T9 with a fantastic 6.0 megapixel given the size of
it.

The first outing of the camera was a week in Athens. We used the excuse of my birthday to dump the kids and get away for a while. The weather was especially good in the 70′s thank you very much :) We stayed at a nice hotel quite central to Athens centre. I’d stayed there before on business and was drawn back by the roof top Olive garden bar and restaurant that they had. It was especially good at night as it looked over the Athens rooftops to a floodlit Acropolis.

The Acropolis has always been a favourite of mine and I have visited 4 times since the mid 70′s. In those days you could walk right through the monuments but nowadays you need to keep a respectful distance amidst the renovation work going on. I don’t think that there is anywhere on earth that has such character as Athens with the Acropolis and the Agora, the birthplace of democracy.

Keeping an even further ‘respectful distance’ we ventured to many a taverna both in the narrow streets and on the stepped paths up to the Acropolis where I took time to partake in two of my favourite pastimes.. beer and squid :)
