Take a deep breath..
(never mind Indian ones) as I believe that in times of need you need to talk
with someone who has the same native tongue.
I have just called Palm. First off I
need to say that I immediately dislike any company that only offers premium
telephone support. No email, no forums, just a crap knowledge base which is so
non-specific its untrue.
So here’s the
problem (abridged). I get this T5 and it reads PDF files (disclaimer – after a
simple conversion) so I install the Adobe reader software. To complete the
install it asks for a hotsync, so I oblige. The hotsync completes, lets take a
look at Adobe… “waiting for
hotsync”.
uninstall… reinstall.
Ditto.
Check with Adobe on their
website for latest version. I already have the latest but note a message on the
site “This software is unsupported”! Ok, so that firmly puts the ball in Palms
court since they advertised the PDF reading as a feature and packaged the reader
on the CD with the PDA.
I call Palm
with my support access code (good for 60 days, then you’re on your jack) and
immediately the ring tone tells me i am through to a central call centre on Mars
for all I care (note I carefully avoided the Uranus cliche). I described the
problem and got asked some question.
1.
I tell them that the Adobe reader software converts and transfers the PDF’s to
be asked how am I transferring the PDF’s and have I made any
conversion.
2. During the conversation
I mention a Mac specific reference. “You’re on a Mac, Why did you not tell me
you were on a Mac?”. Because you didn’t bloody
ask!
3. A reference was made to Palm
Desktop. I don’t use it, I use the iSync conduit for address and Calendar
information, besides it has nothing to do with my problem, they just brought it
up in passing. i told them my preference to be told that iSync conduit is
unsupported and that they wouldn’t be able to answer any more of my
questions!
Their advice to me..
uninstall and reinstall the Adobe
software.
